How to Spot a Suspicious Email

How to Spot a Suspicious Email

Warning

Cyber criminals rely on people reacting quickly without thinking. A few small checks can prevent major issues.

Here’s what to look out for.

1. It creates urgency

Phrases like:

  • “Immediate action required”

  • “Your account will be closed today”

Pressure is a common tactic.

2. The sender looks slightly off

Click on the sender’s name and check the actual email address.
If it looks unusual or misspelled, treat it cautiously.

If you weren’t expecting it, don’t open it straight away.
Especially if it’s asking you to log in somewhere.

4. It asks for sensitive information

We will never ask you for:

  • Your password

  • Your multi-factor authentication code

If an email does, it’s a red flag.

What to do

If something doesn’t feel right:

  1. Don’t click anything

  2. Don’t reply

  3. Forward it to our IT team
